What is vegan keto and why am I doing it?


How did this all start?

So I ate meat for 21 years and I’m going to be honest with you all, I might still slip up with dairy occasionally because it’s a hard cycle to break out of and only do it when I know that the animals the milk is from are treated kindly - ie local farms I know personally and trust.

So what is vegan keto?

So I think it means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Generally it’s defined as very low carb vegan. So that’s no dairy, no meat, no eggs etc and also limited carbs. I’m of the belief of completely if it fits your macros then it’s fine. I try to keep to between 20-30g carbs though I sometimes go over and that’s fine.

I realise this is a restrictive diet however without dairy and meat, my hormones are better and also my binge eating is under control. That’s something that cannot have a price put on.

You do have to do a complete overhaul of what you know and what you eat but I honestly think it is worth it for what you get out of this diet. I have lost over 60lbs and have gained so much confidence. Obviously I still have my bad days but that’s okay but I am in such a better mental state than I was.

I’m not someone who’s going to preach any diet because I know some things work for people and some don’t but I wanted to give a thorough background into my choices. It’s your life however you want to live it and it’s not my place to advocate.

Here are the main reasons I went specifically vegan keto (everyone knows the benefits of keto so I won’t bore you all)

. ➡️I suffer with HS but basically it’s like acne but in other places of the body and the reason it’s caused are still relatively unknown. I have a very very mild case and I respect anyone who goes through the severe cases because it’s awful. .
. ➡️Casein is an addictive substance that’s found in cheese products- I think this triggers my binge eating because of the effect on the brain and triggers inflammation in my body especially with my HS.

. ➡️The weight loss is and will decrease my symptoms and the lack of carbs and sugar help with reducing any bacterial overgrowth .
. ➡️I also wanted to stop my meat intake because of the effect on the environment + cruelty to animals .
